Westgate BusinessWorks is located in two adjacent buildings at the corner of West Broad Street and Westmoor Avenue in the Westgate neighborhood of Columbus.
The BusinessWorks currently offers five commercial spaces for lease. To see a list of current tenants and what space is still available, visit this website's homepage.
We have repeatedly said that attracting the right business is more important than the lease rate. For the right business, which must be committed to long-term growth in Westgate and a willingness to collaborate with other BusinessWorks' entrepreneurs, we will find the right lease rate to maximize your chances for business success.
We purchased the two buildings at a public auction in 2015 with the vague idea of using them to help support entrepreneurs and small business owners in our neighborhood. They were the first, and still the only, commercial buildings we have ever purchased. If you have lived in the neighborhood long, you probably know that the previous owners initially operated a plus-size consignment store out of the back building. As their business grew to occupy more space, they eventually purchased the buildings from an east side family that had owned the buildings for nearly two generations.
Barbara immediately went to work redesigning the exterior of the back building and finding a local contractor (Urban Upkeep) to transform the facade. The picture below is a reminder of just how much this building has changed since October 2015. I went to work trying to figure out how best to help entrepreneurs realize their dream of becoming small business owners. With substantial help from others, we landed on the concept we call the Westgate BusinessWorks.
We are now recruiting small business owners to occupy the spaces and will continue to make additional investments in beautifying the interior and exterior of the buildings. Thanks for your interest in our community project and remember to shop our local, west side small businesses.
